Here in DC, the weather is vacillating between warm-ish and frigid. Both extremes remind me how much I’m looking forward to spring—I’ll be able to run outside, hang out on rooftop bars, and wear dresses again. In this post, I’m showing how I’m wearing three dresses that are perfect for spring right now and how I plan to wear them when it actually gets warm.
I love that dresses are one-piece outfits, so I can get ready without fussing over whether everything works. Because of that, dresses often feel one-note—even the most perfectly fitted, stylish dress can feel old after a few wears. That’s why it’s important to style your dresses different ways to keep them feeling fresh!
Lovely in Lace
This beautiful dress would be perfect for the creative director of Anthropologie to wear for her engagement party in a restored barn. On me, this casual-but-dressy shift looks like a nightgown if I don’t style it well. The full, romantic sleeves, luxurious lace, and loose fit make it too fancy to wear with casual sneakers and too bohemian to pair with polished ballet flats.
For now – Add suede boots to complement the bohemian vibe of the dress and contain the sleeves with a tailored pink coat. This outfit would be great for a girls’ brunch or family gathering.
For later – Let the dress shine with strappy brown sandals for a picnic or outdoor concert.
Perfect Print
Printed dresses are a great way to add color to your wardrobe—you don’t need to worry about matching since the dress is the whole outfit. This dress has a great bohemian vibe.
For now – Add a denim trucker jacket and suede boots to stay warm and comfortable. The brown of the suede boots and leather tote accentuate the pattern of the dress.
For later – Dress it up for work with a fabulous pair of statement earrings and loafers. I made do with penny loafers, but a more modern backless or pointy pair would be even better.
Off-the-Shoulder Dress
I got this striped off-the-shoulder dress at H&M on a whim, but I wear it all the time. Off-the-shoulder necklines are such a fun trend and an inexpensive dress like this is a great way to try it out.
For now – Layer with a denim jacket and accessorize with canvas sneakers. This casual outfit would be perfect for a relaxed dinner with friends or a day of exploring.
For later – Use this striped dress as a cover-up at the lake or the pool! The straight neckline would look great with a strappy bikini top underneath. Slide on a pair of leather sandals and you can go straight from the beach to dinner.
