After going months without accomplishing any bucket list items, I visited two places, the Hirshhorn Museum and Eastern Market, in one sunny Saturday! My good friend from college was in town for an event at the Hirshhorn, and we explored DC together afterwards. The lure of art, time to catch up with a friend from college, and brunch was enough to entice me onto the metro.
I spent Easter this year in Lynchburg (Virginia, not Tennessee) and loved every minute of it. Although Lynchburg isn’t popular for tourists, there are great restaurants and pedestrian areas. H and I spent our two days there checking out the new improvements downtown, visiting old favorite spots, and spending time with family.
H and I don’t know most of the rules of hockey, but we had a blast cheering for the Caps, eating suite mac and cheese, and eavesdropping on the guys behind us who seemed to understand the game.
Seeing the cherry trees downtown when they’re in full bloom is a classic DC activity. Even though I’m behind schedule on my bucket list with nine activities and five months left, I knew a quick trip to the Tidal Basin would be worth it.
Here in DC, the weather is vacillating between warm-ish and frigid. Both extremes remind me how much I’m looking forward to spring—I’ll be able to run outside, hang out on rooftop bars, and wear dresses again. In this post, I’m showing how I’m wearing three dresses that are perfect for spring right now and how I plan to wear them when it actually gets warm.
Since we visited Charleston in February, it was warm enough to swap out my camel coat for a denim jacket and bring sundresses and sandals, although it wasn’t bikini-and-shorts weather. This is what I packed for the trip, which would also work for a spring break road trip or early spring beach weekend.
H and I started talking in January about going somewhere warm for a weekend to escape the DC weather. Charleston was the perfect fit, since I love the South and pastel houses and H loves military history and pimento cheese.
Once you have a plan for Valentine’s Day (this year I got lucky and H made the reservation) the next question is what you’re going to wear. Like most people, our plan is to go out to dinner, but I’ve also put together Valentine’s Day outfits for other activities.
Today we’re going to talk about something that’s very close to my heart: denim. In college I had “denim week,” during which I would wear a Canadian tuxedo every day for a week, once a year. I’ll cover three outfits in this post, including tips to ease you into double denim if it’s not your thing or amp it up if you’re already a denim lover.
Plaid skirts play a major role in my fall and winter wardrobe. I break them out in September and keep them in rotation through March. Plaid skirts are ideal for the holidays—nothing is better for Nutcracker performances or cookie exchanges—but also for work and dates.
