Eco Vacation to the Azores

Eco Vacation to the Azores

H and I just got back from our amazing summer vacation to the Azores (although I’m sure it seems like we’re still there based on pictures I’m still posting to Instagram!). We stayed on São Miguel Island, the largest of the nine islands that make up the Azores, and after we spent our first weekend relaxing at the Hotel Azor in the lovely port town of Ponta Delgada, we would hop in the car each day and drive on mountain roads, lined with the Azores’ signature blue hydrangeas, to spots around the island where we could hike along waterfalls, explore volcanic crater lakes, and swim in hot springs.

Cool Girl Outfits I Packed for a Fourth of July Weekend Trip

Cool Girl Outfits I Packed for a Fourth of July Weekend Trip

This Fourth of July, I had a mini-reunion in Charlottesville over the four-day weekend with my college friends. I needed a variety of outfits, since we were going to hang out downtown and hike in Shenandoah National Park, and I knew I wouldn’t have a ton of time to get ready (hello, sharing a bathroom [...]

Bridal Shower in Richmond

Bridal Shower in Richmond

This Saturday I went to my cousin’s bridal shower in Richmond, in anticipation of her wedding in Princeton this August—clearly, my cousins are on a one-wedding-per-year schedule, as evidenced by my cousin’s wedding in Virginia Beach last year. The shower was at the Commonwealth Club in Richmond, which was where the bride’s parents got married! [...]

Sunrise Hike at Old Rag

Sunrise Hike at Old Rag

After backpacking and camping at Sky Meadows, H and I were ready for our next camping adventure (I’m going to make it sound like both of us are doing the same amount of camping and backpacking research, even though H is definitely more into it, since it is my blog). We were looking for places close to DC, so Old Rag wasn’t on our radar until H found an itinerary to camp in Shenandoah National Park and hike to the peak of Old Rag for sunrise. I decided I would brave another night in a tent for a good sunrise!

What to Wear Camping to Look Like You’re Not Miserable

What to Wear Camping to Look Like You’re Not Miserable

This weekend H and I went backpacking at Sky Meadows, a close-ish state park in Fauquier County. The campground is pretty cushy, so this was our backpacking trial run. H wants to do more challenging backpacking trips together, like Mount Rogers, and my previous camping experiences have mostly been youth group-style camping in a field on someone’s farm or car camping at a site with running water and other modern conveniences. Since I’m not the most experienced/willing camper

Spring Getaway Weekend in Lynchburg

Spring Getaway Weekend in Lynchburg

This mid-March weekend was the ultimate spring getaway for H and me in Lynchburg—it was just warm enough to venture outside after the long winter cooped up indoors. My niece’s second birthday was on Saturday, so we planned a weekend in Lynchburg around the birthday get-together. We love exploring downtown Lynchburg (or at least I do, and H tolerates it) and seeing local historic sites, so we had a lot planned.

What to Wear for a Romantic Valentine’s Day Date

What to Wear for a Romantic Valentine’s Day Date

Maybe it was the remarkably cold, dreary January this year, or all the fabulous dates I was watching on the Bachelor, but for whatever reason I started looking forward to H and I’s Valentine’s Day date AT LEAST a month before Valentine’s Day. We geared up for it with a Valentine’s Day tea the weekend before at Cherry Hill Farmhouse in Falls Church, which was campy but fun (think ladies in hoop skirts saying “Well, back in the olden days” and lots of fudge). We planned our big, romantic Valentine’s Day date for February 14, a Thursday.

Valentine’s Day Tea

Valentine’s Day Tea

H and I were looking for tennis lessons in the Falls Church City parks and rec catalog when H stumbled across a Valentine’s Day tea the city was hosting at a historic farmhouse the weekend before Valentine’s Day. I know, you’re thinking I’m that girl who dragged her poor unsuspecting boyfriend to some girly tea, but truly, H was the one who suggested it. We planned to make the tea part of our Valentine’s Day celebration and got tickets in early January (that’s right, I don’t mess around when I have an opportunity to dress up and eat tiny sandwiches in a historic house).

A Christmas Panthers Game

A Christmas Panthers Game

H and I talked about going to a Panthers game in Charlotte, since last year we went to an away game in Foxborough, but we had trouble planning a weekend trip since the games were all on Thursday nights, Sundays, or Monday nights. I saw that they were playing the Falcons on the Sunday before Christmas, and we decided to drive to Charlotte for the game as part of our convoluted weekend-before-Christmas plan.
