I was having a normal Tuesday at work when H texted me unexpectedly to ask if I wanted to go see Hamilton that night. I was surprised, since neither of us had expressed interest in seeing it before, and even more confused when he asked if I wanted to have dinner with our state delegate before the show.
Baseball games are a fun summer activity, even if, like me, you’re not much of a baseball fan. This summer I went to three Nationals games in DC and put together a cute team-spirited outfit for each one, even without owning any Nationals swag. These would work for any team in the right colors.
After my fun day exploring Friday and active day Saturday, I settled into a vacation routine on Sunday. Early that morning, we walked to an Anglican service at the oldest church on the island, which was made of beautiful white stone.
I had told my mom our trip to Barbados would be an active vacation, and on Saturday I made it happen. We had our relaxing day in the sun on Friday, so I was ready to try out the activities at the hotel.
After a long day of travel, our flight got in late at night. Barbados at midnight was tropical and lovely, from the palm trees we could see waving in the warm breeze outside the airport to the rum punch we sipped on as we checked into our hotel, the Colony Club. We made our way along the paths that wound between low two-story buildings and lagoon-like pools to our room and collapsed into bed.
The Wednesday afternoon I left was a blur of finishing last-minute work tasks, repeating to myself that I must not forget my passport, and trying to get on the road before the tolls started. I stayed the night with my parents, then we embarked on a series of flights starting at the Lynchburg airport, where you walk on the runway and up a flight of stairs to the plane like you’re in an old movie.
Here in DC, the weather is vacillating between warm-ish and frigid. Both extremes remind me how much I’m looking forward to spring—I’ll be able to run outside, hang out on rooftop bars, and wear dresses again. In this post, I’m showing how I’m wearing three dresses that are perfect for spring right now and how I plan to wear them when it actually gets warm.
Since we visited Charleston in February, it was warm enough to swap out my camel coat for a denim jacket and bring sundresses and sandals, although it wasn’t bikini-and-shorts weather. This is what I packed for the trip, which would also work for a spring break road trip or early spring beach weekend.
Once you have a plan for Valentine’s Day (this year I got lucky and H made the reservation) the next question is what you’re going to wear. Like most people, our plan is to go out to dinner, but I’ve also put together Valentine’s Day outfits for other activities.
Today we’re going to talk about something that’s very close to my heart: denim. In college I had “denim week,” during which I would wear a Canadian tuxedo every day for a week, once a year. I’ll cover three outfits in this post, including tips to ease you into double denim if it’s not your thing or amp it up if you’re already a denim lover.
